A Phair Catch
With Terry Phair
Terry Phair is a father, husband, member of the Lummi Nation, fisherman, and above all else, a hard worker. In our podcast conversation, Terry shared about his motivations, how fishing has kept him and his family close to their ancestors, bigfoot’s favorite foods, and how the Lummi Seafood Market is creating a community food system.
We got to sit down at the beach across from his house which faces the beautiful Whakis Bay (Frog Bay) for this conversation so crashing waves and the occasional bird call can be heard in the background.
We also got to see the sea urchin shells that Terry discarded the night before after cooking them for dinner. Terry recently got his diving certification which allows him to collect less common seafood, setting him apart from other fishermen in the area.

SDGs
SDG 14: Life Below Water
Conserving seas, oceans, and marine resources is essential for sustainable development as they are key to our planet's biodiversity and to global food security.
SDG 15: Life on Land
Protect and restore land ecosystems to preserve biodiversity, reduce land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss to ensure that natural resources are available for future generations.
SDG 3: Good Health & Wellbeing
Promoting health and well-being is crucial for sustainable development. Healthy populations live longer, are more productive, and save more, contributing to the economic growth of their communities and countries.
SDG 1: No Poverty
Eradicating poverty in all its forms is essential because it is the primary indicator of people's well-being. Reducing poverty is not only about improving the financial conditions of individuals but also about ensuring access to basic needs such as healthcare, education, and other social services.
