Fast-Tracking Forests with the Miyawaki Method
The Whatcom Million Trees Project is embracing the Miyawaki method, a revolutionary approach to reforestation that accelerates forest growth and biodiversity. Developed by botanist Akira Miyawaki, this technique plants native species densely together, allowing them to compete for sunlight and grow 10 times faster than conventional forests.
These mini-forests cool urban spaces, reduce flooding, filter pollution, and create thriving ecosystems for wildlife and people alike. With community support, we’re transforming small spaces into powerful climate solutions.
