In this episode of The Rising Tide Collective, Mitchell, Lucas, and Gabe sit down with Alli from Blue Skies for Children, a nonprofit organization based in Bellingham, Washington. We explore how Alli got involved with the organization, the evolution of Blue Skies over the years, and the meaningful impact they’ve had on children and families in the local community. One of the first things you see when entering Blue Skies for Children is this vibrant display, books donated specifically for high school youth, surrounded by artwork created by the children they serve. It’s more than decoration. It’s a symbol of hope, creativity, and the community’s commitment to supporting young people through education and expression.
Alexandra, the Office and Program Coordinator at Blue Skies for Children, is holding up a recent donation from Bombas, baby socks that will go to local families in need. Donations like these may seem small, but they make a big difference in the day-to-day lives of the children served by the organization.
At Blue Skies for Children, every donation is handled with care and purpose. From sports gear like soccer balls, tennis racquets, and cleats to clothing sorted neatly into totes by size and type, these resources are organized and ready for families to pick up. It’s all about creating access and giving kids the tools they need to play, grow, and thrive.
Behind the scenes at Blue Skies for Children, the donation sorting room is where the magic happens. Volunteers and staff sort through donated clothes, toys, and sports equipment, inventory each item, and carefully pack them into totes. This space reflects the organization’s commitment to thoughtful, organized care, and ensures that every donation reaches the right child at the right time.
